Respiratory Protection Proper Use Guidelines
When selecting proper Respiratory Protection, we recommend you consider the following practices:
- Ensure required fit testing is provided regularly and users obtain written, doctor's consent to participate.
- Ensure users are familiar with exposure limits and APR's (Assigned Protection Factors), and always consult company safety personnel to assist in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) selection.
- Ensure all applicable MSDS's (Material Safety Data Sheets) are on the site, are accessible, and are current within three years.
- Ensure filter medium is adequate for the specific hazard.
- Ensure equipment is as comfortable as possible when worn in its intended environment (and while all required PPE is being worn simultaneously).
- Ensure design is durable enough for the expected work conditions.
- Ensure all other means to control source of hazard have been explored and exhausted.
- Ensure a properly documented respiratory program and that comprehensive training is in place where required.
- Ensure equipment is easy to inspect, clean, and disinfect.
